What should you evaluate?
Choose the engineering record that needs control: CAD files, product structures, release approvals or changes across departments. PDM and PLM products can overlap, but file control does not establish every product-lifecycle workflow. Edition and bundle boundaries matter.
Authoritative records
A CAD file, a BOM row and a released manufacturing package are different objects.
Ask: Which record is authoritative for part number, revision and release status?Change propagation
Approved engineering changes must reach affected downstream work.
Ask: Follow a component change into assemblies, purchased stock and open work orders.CAD and editions
Connectors and edition limits affect actual authoring workflows.
Ask: Demonstrate our CAD version and identify the exact required product edition.BOM and effectivity
Engineering and manufacturing structures can differ.
Ask: How do revisions, alternates and effective dates reach the manufacturing BOM?External access
Suppliers may need a controlled view without broad authoring access.
Ask: Show supplier permissions and what a contributor license can actually change.Migration and export
A usable exit includes files and relationships, not just a list of names.
Ask: Export a released product record, attachments, approvals and change relationships.Sources behind these evaluation criteria
